職場英文簡報：三步驟解釋圓餅圖 (pie charts) ｜EF English Live 部落格

餅圖通常以百分比 (%) 的方式呈現，目的是用來說明與比例有關的事物，例如市占率等。解釋圓餅圖時通常包含三個步驟，讓我們一一來看：

1. 介紹圖表

介紹圖表的第一步通常是說明圖表的類型、資料來源、主題等。說明圖表類型常用的句型有：this is…（這是…）等。說明資料來源則可用**(be) courtesy of…（承蒙…提供）、put together… （整理出…）、(be) from…（從…）、(be) gathered from…（從…蒐集）等。說明圖表的主題時常用的句型是The chart shows / describes / illustrates…**（這圖表顯示 / 描述 / 說明了……）。

This is a pie chart courtesy of the Ministry of Education.

這是由教育部提供的餅圖。

Here is a pie chart of the current market. The data are from our sales department.

這是目前市場狀況的餅圖。資料是由我們的銷售部門提供。

The chart illustrates the breakdown of revenues for Alibaba over the fourth quarter of last year.

這張圖顯示了去年第四季阿里巴巴的營收細目。

2. 解說圖表

由於圓餅圖通常畫分為幾個扇形，因此描述時多會用到 section（部分）、segment（部分）、piece （片段）、portion（一部分）等，之後所接的動詞通常是 represent（代表）、mean（意味）、show（顯示）、suggest（表示）等。此外，由於餅圖通常用來呈現不同事物的百分比，因此描述時多會用到「比較」的相關字眼，例如 the largest（最大）、the most popular（最受歡迎）、the most（最…；最多）、the favorite（最受喜愛）等。

The dark piece here means buyers find their homes while searching online.

這個深色的部分意味著買家是在網路上搜尋到他們的房屋。

The sections mean four expense categories: salary, rent, supplies, and others.

這些部分代表四種支出類別：薪水、租金、生活用品和其他。

The chart shows that LG has the largest market share.

此圖顯示LG有最大的市占率。

As can be seen in the chart, among all the dog breeds, poodles are the favorite.

從圖表可知，在所有的狗品種中，貴賓犬是最受喜愛的。

3. 評論圖表

根據圖表的不同，評論的內容可以千變萬化，一般包含了說明原因、做出評析、預測未來等。這部分的內容最為重要，因為它代表了講者的專業以及價值，請你好好發揮！

It is worrisome that the world’s population is aging, and it may have catastrophic consequences.
